Jeep TJ Wrangler Throttle Return Spring Installation
Adding a Spring to your Jeep TJ Wrangler Throttle to Reduce
Throttle Sensitivity
2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4.0L, 6-Cyl. Engine
It seems that 2005 & 2006 Wranglers do not come with the above throttle spring. This makes the throttle very sensitive and hard to control over bumps at low speeds.
I purchased a spring for a 2004 Wrangler, part # 52078102-AB from my Jeep dealer. $4.85 list price. I got it for $3.64. Such a deal! Heh, heh.
I drilled a small hole in the existing bracket for the hooked side of the spring, and used a 6-32 thread size bolt and 3 nuts for the throttle linkage side of the spring. The head of the bolt fits into the plastic slot on one end of the spring. I then ran a nut up to the plastic, but just barely finger tight, so that the plastic can pivot as the throttle linkage changes positions. I then double nutted the assembly onto the throttle linkage and cut off the excess bolt.
The throttle has a "normal" feel to it now, and is much less sensitive than before.
